Girl reading, 1921–1922, by Magnus Enckell

Our story, Dear, it’s a bittersweet journey, isn’t it? There’s no clear start or end; we seem ensnared in an endless loop. We linger between ‘almost’ and ‘maybe,’ on the verge of closure but never quite grasping it.

Trapped in this limbo, with no visible escape, we dwell in uncertainty, entangled in the complexities of our emotions. We’ve tasted both the sweetness of love and the bitterness of heartache. You were my anchor, just as I was yours, yet our bond fractured too easily to make us whole.

The fear of pain blinds us, masking the truth that it’s our connection that renders us vulnerable. Despite this awareness, we hold on tightly, ignoring the harsh realities and challenges we face.

Today, I made the difficult decision to erase all traces of our communication. 28,478 messages exchanged over our time together. My chest tightens with bitterness and helplessness, but I believe it’s necessary.

I can’t bear to suffer any longer, holding onto hope for a love that may never be fully reciprocated. I understand your past disappointments, your hurts, and your struggles. But I refuse to perpetuate the cycle of pain onto others.

I still hold love for you, Tis, but I pray this marks the end. The dream of marrying you, spending eternity together, now fades into a distant memory. Whatever paths we tread in the future, I hope we can cross them as friends, as companions.

May you find healing swiftly, may strength and clarity guide your way. Speak your truth, don’t retreat into silence, and embrace those who genuinely care for you.
